Carlos Alario-Hoyos is Visiting Professor in the Department of Telematics Engineering at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) and Subdirector of the UNESCO Chair on Scalable Digital Education for All (“Educación Digital Escalable para Todos”). He received M.S. and PhD degrees in Information and Communication Technologies from the Universidad of Valladolid, Spain, in 2007 and 2012 respectively. He acted as Deputy Vice President for Strategy and Digital Education at UC3M since October 2017. His skills and experience include research and development in MOOCs, social networks, collaborative learning, or evaluation of learning experiences, among others. He has been involved in the design and enactment of MOOCs deployed in MiríadaX, edX and Open edX, the authoring and design of several MOOCs at UC3M (including the participation as teaching staff in three successful edX MOOCs about Programming in Java with more than 450,000 enrollees), the creation of the MOOC Canvas or the evaluation of social network interaction.
