He holds a PhD in Engineering from the Pontifical Bolivarian University in Medellín, Colombia, and has carried out a postdoctoral research at the Institute for Artificial Intelligence of De Montfort University in Leicester, United Kingdom. He has led different research projects, and has integrated Artificial Intelligence (AI) into areas of knowledge such as computational modeling, financial risk, energy sector and precision agriculture. He is the director of the Computational Intelligence and Machine Learning Research Group of EIA University in Medellín, Colombia; researcher of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence of De Montfort University; and a member of the National Accreditation Board (CNA), an advisory body of the Ministry of National Education for the accreditation of higher education programs in Colombia. In 2018, he received one of the Industry-Academia Partnership Programme – Legacy Awards, granted by the Royal Academy of Engineering, for his efforts to improve sustainability of palm crops in the world by using multispectral images and AI, and implementing all Fintech-Insurtech activities whose main objective is the development of financial products based on AI in order to generate social inclusion from finance in Latin America and the Caribbean.
