Marvin Lopez

Marvin, a native of Nicaragua, grew up in the Los Angeles area and graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering. He recently completed a Master’s Degree in Organization and Leadership in Higher Education from the University of San Francisco. He also holds Certificates in Business Administration as well as Student Affairs and Higher Education Administration from UC Berkeley Extension. Marvin began his career in software development, managing increasingly critical systems and teams at Pacific Gas & Electric Co. Along the way, Marvin found a passion for discovering and developing university talent as well as championing diversity and inclusion. He followed this passion by taking on a number of global leadership roles in diversity and inclusion and university relations at organizations as diverse as PG&E, Intuit, and AMD. In 2016, Marvin made a major career change and moved from the corporate world to academia. Currently, Marvin is Director of Student Programs in Engineering Student Services at UC Berkeley’s College of Engineering. In this role, Marvin aims to level the playing field by providing innovative, world-class co-curricular programs to ensure the success of Berkeley Engineering undergraduates, especially those from underserved and underrepresented backgrounds. Marvin resides in Walnut Creek, CA, with his wife, Jill, a scientist at Genentech. In his spare time, Marvin travels the world, hikes, and avidly follows UCLA (and Cal) sports.
