Russell McMahon has been teaching IT related subject matter since 1980 and has been a faculty member in the School of Information Technology at the University of Cincinnati since 1999. He is also the assistant director for the undergraduate BSIT program and has also written about the history of computing at the University of Cincinnati. Prior to coming to UC he has taught at several area high schools and spent more than 8 years in the IT world. He is very active in the IT user group community having served on the boards of multiple groups and currently is a board member of the local chapter of the Association for Talent Development. In 2014, he spent 6 months working at three universities in three different countries in Africa (Rwanda, Kenya, and South Africa) doing IT curriculum development and giving talks on creative problem solving. The past year and half he has been conducting workshops at technical conferences on improvisation techniques for better communication and team building skills including one in Rwanda. He recently served as a Fulbright Specialist in Shymkent, Kazakhstan in early 2019 working at Miras University helping the IT faculty with their technical and English skills as well as teaching improvisation techniques to teachers and students. He is a life-long learner who even today continues to learn new things from those that he meets.
